Permanent Transience

Wild foraged clay sourced from coastal areas in Dharawal Country, natural minerals and pigments, earthenware, driftwood ash glaze. Size variable.

Permanent Transience (2025) is a series of stacked ceramic forms that capture fleeting moments in the coastal landscapes of Dharawal Country. Made from wild foraged clay, natural pigments, and driftwood ash glaze, the work reflects the site’s geology and ecological rhythms. Each hand-built form responds to the clay’s inherent textures and mineral content, embracing transformation as organic matter burns away and colours shift through firing. In dialogue with contemporary ceramic practices by artists such as Belinda Blignaut and Chrystie Longworth, the project explores impermanence, balance, and environmental fragility. The resulting assemblages invite slow, contemplative viewing, encouraging audiences to notice the subtle, transient beauty held within the natural world.
